Eleven separate Spring Branch ISD elementary and middle schools were recognized earlier this week as “America’s Healthiest Schools” by the national Alliance for a Healthier Generation, which aims to develop lifelong, healthy habits in all kids.
The SBISD schools are among a record 461 schools from 26 states being honored for promoting healthy eating and physical activity.
The alliance recognizes schools that meet or exceed a rigorous set of criteria that include serving healthier meals and snacks, getting students moving more, offering high-quality physical and health education and empowering school leaders to become healthy role models.
Silver Award Winners
National Silver Award winners in the Spring Branch ISD include three elementary schools – Frostwood, Hunters Creek, and Wilchester.
Bronze Award Winners
National Bronze Awards were also issued to seven SBISD elementary schools and one middle school. They are Edgewood, Housman, Meadow Wood, Pine Shadows, Rummel Creek, Spring Shadows and Westwood, and Landrum Middle School.
The award-winning schools will be honored Sept. 24 during the regular monthly meeting of the SBISD Board of Trustees.

The alliance also supports the landmark Healthy Schools Program – one of the nation’s largest school-based childhood obesity prevention initiatives – which has worked with more than 42,000 schools serving more than 25 million U.S. students since 2006.
